Bug Creative House Post-Production Studio uses TerraMaster NVMe DAS solutions to create efficient and stable workflows.

"After several days of real editing and grading work, the TerraMaster D4 proved to be stable, quiet, and thermally controlled. Not just fast, but reliable under sustained workload."

The Challenge

As a professional post-production studio specializing in film and brand creative services, Bug Creative House undertakes long-term high-end video editing, color grading, visual effects, and full-cycle post-production for 4K/6K projects. The team routinely handles massive high-bitrate footage, multi-track project files, and multi-terabyte large-scale projects, which impose extremely strict requirements on storage performance, thermal stability, configuration flexibility, portability, and expandability. However, the team’s previous storage systems frequently suffered from overheating, excessive fan noise, insufficient transfer speeds, inflexible configurations, bulky form factors, and decentralized management when handling intensive editing and grading tasks, multi-NVMe deployments, on-location footage backup, and large-file migrations. These issues severely hindered efficient, stable, and flexible professional post-production workflows, creating an urgent need for a high-performance storage solution tailored for professional video production.

The Solution

Bug Creative House has adopted the TerraMaster D4 SSD 4-bay NVMe USB4 SSD enclosure as its core storage solution, paired with 2× WD Black SN850X 8TB SSDs, 2× Lexar NM790 4TB SSDs, and separately purchased low-profile aluminum heatsinks. The solution connects seamlessly via USB4 to Mac Studio M3 Ultra and MacBook devices. The 2× Lexar 4TB drives are configured as a RAID 0 volume for high-speed project workloads, 1× WD 8TB drive is used as a cache drive, and the second WD 8TB drive serves as a dedicated backup drive, establishing a professional workflow with separate system, project, cache, and backup volumes. Thanks to its excellent thermal design, idle temperatures hover around 23°C, normal operating temperatures stay at 30–32°C, and peak temperatures under heavy load only briefly reach 34–35°C with near-silent fan operation. The system delivers burst transfer speeds up to 250GB per minute for project migrations. Its lightweight, compact design supports on-location footage ingestion and rough editing, while maintaining stable performance during 8–10 hours of daily intensive use. The solution completely resolves thermal, speed, configuration, portability, and centralized management challenges, greatly improving post-production efficiency and workflow standardization.

Recommended Hardware Combination

This solution features a simple and reliable hardware setup. The core component is the TerraMaster D4 4-bay NVMe USB4 SSD enclosure, which operates stably with mainstream PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs.

Compatible replacement options include same-specification NVMe SSDs from Western Digital, Seagate, Samsung, Kioxia, and ZHITAI. Low-profile heatsinks are also compatible with standard accessories from Thermalright, JEYI, DeepCool, and other brands to meet various procurement and replacement preferences. For workstation deployments requiring higher capacity using HDDs, USB DAS models such as the D9-320, D6-320, and D4-320 are available. For users requiring NVMe SSDs with both high speed and large capacity, the D8 SSD Pro is the ideal choice.

The Customer

As a post-production studio focused on film and brand creativity, Bug Creative House has nearly 30 years of industry experience, with top-tier clientele across technology, luxury goods, fashion, and beauty. Its partners include DJI, Nikon, Moncler, and Biotherm. The team’s daily workflow centers on high-end 4K post-production using Adobe Premiere Pro for editing and DaVinci Resolve for color grading, and is gradually expanding into compressed 6K workflows alongside advancing camera technology. The team has long used storage products from LaCie and OWC, with deep expertise and strict standards for professional hardware.

What impressed the team most about the D4 SSD was not just its peak performance — with burst project migration speeds of around 250GB per minute meeting expectations — but its stability and reliability after days of continuous heavy use. After a full week of nonstop editing and grading, 8 to 10 hours per day, the TerraMaster D4 proved to be a stable, quiet, and thermally controlled solution. In the team’s own words: “It is not only fast but also reliable under sustained workloads.”
