In the process of using storage devices, we often encounter situations where previously created arrays and partitions on a disk no longer meet current requirements. To reconfigure arrays and partitions based on new needs, it is necessary to delete existing arrays, partitions, and even superblocks on the disk. Failure to do so may lead to various obstacles when creating new partitions.
In such cases, disk wiping is required to thoroughly remove all records on the disk, essentially performing an initialization operation. However, it's crucial to note that once a disk is wiped, the data stored on it will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. Therefore, exercise caution when performing this operation!
Before TOS 6, if you wanted to wipe a disk in TNAS, it was typically a relatively cumbersome task. You had to remove the disk, connect it to the computer's SATA interface, or use an external device connected to the computer, and then utilize some disk utilities for the wiping operation.
However, with the introduction of TOS 6, the functionality of online disk wiping has been added. Now, you don't need to disassemble the disk or rely on external tools. By using the tools provided by TOS, you can easily perform disk wiping on TNAS without shutting down the device, significantly simplifying the entire operation process.
If you need to wipe a disk that is currently in use, please follow these steps:
1. Go to ""TOS > Control Panel > Storage Management > Hard Drives."" On the page, select the disk you want to wipe.
2. Click ""Wipe Disk"" and then enter the administrator password in the pop-up window to confirm the operation.
3. Start the disk wiping process. The process is quick and takes only 10 to 20 seconds.
