Q1: Can I simply move the hard drives from my old TNAS to the new one?

A: In most cases, yes!

Seamless Migration (Plug & Play): If you are migrating between models of the same architecture (e.g., from an X86 UEFI model to another UEFI model, or between matching ARM models), simply power off the old TNAS, insert the drives into the new TNAS, and power it on. Your data and settings will remain intact.

Cross-Architecture Migration: If switching from ARM to X86 or Legacy to UEFI models, you can insert the drives into the new TNAS and reinstall the TOS system. Your data will usually remain accessible after reinstallation.

(Note: If the installer warns that data will be erased, STOP immediately and contact support.)

Can I change my plan later?

A: DO NOT proceed. Standard drive migration and TOS reinstallation will NOT wipe your data volumes. If a formatting prompt appears, it means the partition system requires manual intervention. Please cancel the setup and reach out to our 24/7 technical support team for guidance.

Q2: What should I keep in mind when upgrading from older models (e.g., F2-210/F2-221) to the latest lineup (e.g., F4-424 Series)?

A: Because of differences in CPU architecture and boot modes, moving drives directly to a next-gen NAS requires a TOS system reinstallation. For ultimate data safety, we strongly recommend backing up your critical files to an external storage device (such as a TDAS enclosure) or cloud storage before starting the hardware setup.

Q4: Will my files from TOS 4 or TOS 5 be compatible if I upgrade to a new NAS running TOS 7?

A: Yes. Your storage pools and volumes will be recognized properly by the new system as long as you follow the official migration and TOS setup procedure.
